GTEC Updates List of 80 Unrecognised Institutions in Ghana and Abroad (June 2026)
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has updated its list of unrecognised institutions, increasing the number from 62 to 80 in its latest public notice issued on Thursday, 25 June 2026.
According to GTEC, the institutions listed are currently not recognised by the Commission due to various quality assurance concerns. Consequently, the Commission has advised the public to exercise due diligence regarding certificates issued by these institutions.
The latest update adds 18 more institutions to the previous list released in April 2026. Students, parents, employers, and working professionals are therefore encouraged to verify the recognition status of any institution before enrolling or relying on its qualifications.

How to Check if a School is Recognised
Before applying to any tertiary institution, students should:
- Confirm the institution’s recognition status with GTEC
- Verify that the specific programme is approved
- Confirm the school’s physical presence and official contacts
- Be cautious of unusually fast degree offers
- Avoid paying fees without proper verification
Already Studied in One of These Institutions?
However, persons who already hold certificates from any institution named in the notice should seek guidance directly from GTEC regarding recognition, equivalency, or the next steps.
Final Word
Therefore, this latest GTEC update reminds students, parents, employers, and working professionals to choose institutions carefully and always verify a school’s recognition status before enrolling or accepting qualifications for employment or further studies.
