GES Releases 2026/2027 National Harmonised Prospectus for Boarding and Day Students
The Ghana Education Service has released the 2026/2027 National Harmonised Prospectus for students entering Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools across the country. The prospectus provides the approved list of items required for both boarding and day students as they prepare to report to their respective SHS and SHTS.
Parents, guardians and prospective students can therefore use the harmonised prospectus as a guide when purchasing items needed for school. The document separates the requirements for boarding students from those for day students and also provides additional items students are expected to supply for school use.
Items for Boarding SHS and SHTS Students
Students placed as boarders in Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools are expected to report with personal effects, clothing, bedding, learning materials and other items needed for their stay on campus.
According to the 2026/2027 National Harmonised Prospectus, boarding students are required to have:
Hard body suitcase or trunk
Chop box, wooden or plastic
Drinking cup, plastic or stainless steel
Plate and a set of cutlery
Toiletries, including 1 deodorant, 1 pack of toilet roll, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, pomade and 2 packs of sanitary pads for girls
Decent sandals, school specific, with no embellishment
A pair of leather slippers, school specific
Decent sneakers, black or white
2 pairs of socks, school specific
1 pyjamas or sleepwear
Underwear, including 5 pants and 3 vests for girls, and 3 boxer shorts or pants and 3 singlets for boys
1 plastic bucket with cover and pail
RSV/NIV Bible or Quran and hymn book for Christians, where school specific
Pillow
2 students’ bedsheets with 2 pillowcases, plain white
1 blanket and sleeping cloth
A pair of khaki trousers
A pair of white trousers, or as specified by the school
White dress for ladies
2 white shirts, 1 short sleeve and 1 long sleeve
Student size mosquito net
1 school bag
1 mathematical set and scientific calculator
2 checked dresses, where applicable
Student mattress
Shoe in the school specific colour

Items for Day SHS and SHTS Students
The requirements for day students are considerably fewer because they will not be staying in the boarding facilities of their Senior High School or Senior High Technical School. They are therefore not required to purchase most of the residential items listed for boarding students.
The National Harmonised Prospectus requires day students to have:
1 mathematical set and scientific calculator
Decent sandals, school specific, with no embellishment
Decent sneakers, black or white
1 school bag
Parents of day students should still check any school specific requirements before making purchases. This is particularly important for items such as sandals and other belongings whose specifications may differ from one school to another.
Additional Items for School Use
In addition to the personal items required for boarding and day students, the prospectus also provides a separate list of items to be supplied for school use. These items have been divided into three groups.
Importantly, students are required to purchase items from any one of the three groups. This means parents and students should not interpret the prospectus as requiring them to buy all the items listed under Groups 1, 2 and 3.
Group 1
Students choosing Group 1 are required to provide:

5 litres of liquid soap
1kg washing powdered soap
Group 2
Students choosing Group 2 are required to provide:

Students choosing Group 3 are required to provide:

All Personal Items Must Be Labelled
GES has also directed that all personal items belonging to students should be properly identified. The prospectus states that all personal items should be embossed or embroidered with the student’s name.
Parents and guardians should therefore ensure that the names of their children are placed on the appropriate belongings before they report to school. This can help students identify their belongings, particularly in boarding schools where many students may have similar items.
Parents Should Check School Specific Requirements
Although the prospectus has been harmonised for SHS and SHTS students nationally, some items are still described as school specific. Parents should therefore confirm such requirements with the school where their child has been placed before purchasing them.
This is particularly relevant to items such as shoes, belts, sandals, socks and some clothing. Checking the school’s requirements can help parents avoid buying items with the wrong colour or specification.
